Rachel Bay Jones
Rachel Bay Jones is an American actress and singer, best known for originating the role of Evan Hansen’s mother in the stage musical Dear Evan Hansen.
Jones’ Broadway career began as an understudy in a 1989 production of Meet Me in St. Louis. Her early credits include touring productions of Grand Hotel, Rent and Evita.
In 2009, Jones was part of a Broadway revival of Hair. She then originated the role of Catherine in the 2013 revival of Pippin.
Her three-year run as Heidi Hansen, the title character’s mother in Dear Evan Hansen, won Jones an Emmy award, a Grammy award, and a Tony award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.
Jones’ TV credits include recurring roles on Modern Family, God Friended Me, and The Good Doctor. Prior to Young Sheldon, Jones had a recurring role on the Chuck Lorre-created sitcom United States of Al.
Jones first guest starred as Audrey McAllister, Mandy’s mother, in a 2022 episode of Young Sheldon. She continued to guest star in the show’s sixth and seventh seasons.
