    112. Typhoid Georgie

    February 27, 2025

Georgie is reluctant to take a sick day when he develops a cold and is determined to power through, just like his dad used to. Meanwhile, Mandy gets the opportunity to fill in as the local weather girl.

Quote from Audrey

Mandy: Oh. A dress of my choosing?
Audrey: Your choosing, my choo... Let's just call it "our choosing."
Mandy: [sighs] I don't know what to say. Thank you.
Audrey: You don't have to thank me. I just hope this turns into a real career for you.
Mandy: Mm. So you can brag to all your friends that I'm on TV instead of waitressing?
Audrey: [chuckles] I don't tell my friends you're waitressing. Come on, we can drop this off at the Goodwill on the way.

Quote from Georgie

[dream sequence:]
George Sr.: Morning, son.
Georgie: Morning. Hold on a minute.
George Sr.: What?
Georgie: Are those chocolate chip pancakes?
George Sr.: Sure are.
Georgie: Well, all right.

Quote from Connor

Connor: Where you going?
Georgie: Work.
Connor: Whoa, whoa, whoa. You're not going anywhere, mister.
Georgie: Connor, get out of my way.
Connor: Don't make me get the special thermometer.
[Georgie shakes his head and turns back]

Quote from Georgie

Georgie: I had a dream about my dad.
Connor: Oh. Was that nice?
Georgie: Not really. He was disappointed in me.
Connor: Why?
Georgie: I think 'cause I went home sick.
Connor: So?
Georgie: Well, he was in the Army, he was a football coach. Ever since I was a little kid, he's always taught me to play through the pain. Rub some dirt on it, walk it off.
Connor: What's the dirt do?
Georgie: Stops the bleeding. I don't know.

Quote from Georgie

Connor: Would you make CeeCee go to school if she was sick?
Georgie: Of course not. But she's a little girl. I'm a grown man. People depend on me.
Connor: And if you don't show up, you're letting them down?
Georgie: Obviously.
Connor: How old was your father when he passed?
Georgie: What's your point?
Connor: Maybe if he'd taken better care of himself, he'd still be here.
Georgie: You don't know what you're talking about.
Connor: Okay.
Georgie: I'm serious.
Connor: Okay.
Georgie: Okay.
Connor: Okay.

Quote from Audrey

Mandy: Thanks again for the new outfit.
Audrey: You're welcome.
Mandy: And for the Cinnabon. It really helped.
Audrey: That was for both of us, but it's fine.

Quote from Connor

Mandy: Hey. What are you doing?
Connor: Taking care of Georgie.
Mandy: Georgie's here?
Connor: Yes. He's very sick.
Mandy: Oh, my God.
Connor: Oh, wait. Here's some Vicks. He would not let me rub it on his chest.

Quote from Mandy

Georgie: You shouldn't be in here. I don't want to get you sick.
Mandy: Oh, I'll be fine.
Georgie: No, you need to stay healthy for your weather thing.
Mandy: Right, my weather thing. Listen, if this doesn't go well, will you be disappointed in me?
Georgie: Of course not. I could never be disappointed in you.
Mandy: Thank you. And if it does go well, will you move to Houston with me?
Georgie: Houston?
Mandy: Never mind. [throws Vicks] Here, rub this on your chest.
Georgie: Houston?!

Quote from Audrey

Audrey: I can't sleep.
Jim: Well, lucky for you, I'm awake.
Audrey: I'm nervous about Mandy.
Jim: Oh, she's gonna be great.
Audrey: That's the problem. What if this leads to something bigger? What if she gets a job offer in Houston or Dallas? What if they move and take CeeCee? I can't lose my granddaughter, Jim.
Jim: Look, nothing's happened yet.
Audrey: I know. But if they're moving, we're moving.
Jim: Wait, what about the store?
Audrey: Oh, you'll figure it out. Good night. [turns out the light]

Quote from Mandy

Mandy: [on TV] Thank you, Kimberly. I've got your weekend weather report. Let's get right into it.
Georgie: Look, CeeCee, there's Mama.
Jim: Well, I like what she's wearing.
Audrey: You're welcome.
Mandy: But there's a cold weather front moving in from Nacogdoches, so expect some precipitation tomorrow.
Connor: "Nacogdoches" and "precipitation." [short chuckle] Tough combo.
Audrey: You know, that map isn't really there. It's just green.
Mandy: Overnight, into the morning, we'll be seeing some wind gusts which should clear out those clouds.
Georgie: Dang, she's really good.
Mandy: ...for all you churchgoers. I'm Mandy McAllister. Heather will be back with the weather on Monday, unless she needs a few extra days with her family, which would be very understandable, given the tragedy that's befallen her. Now back to Chip, with sports.

Quote from Mandy

Mandy: That was Channel 7. They want me to fill in for the regular weather girl on Friday.
Connor: Heather with the weather?
Mandy: Mm-hmm.
Georgie: Well, that's amazing. [coughs]
Mandy: You okay?
Georgie: Allergies.
Mandy: Heather has to go to her grandma's funeral in El Paso. Which is obviously sad.
Connor: You don't look sad.
Mandy: [excitedly] Well, I am.

Quote from Mandy

Mandy: Why are you knitting?
Georgie: Your mom's teaching me. Thought I could make CeeCee a blanket.
Mandy: Sweet. I'm gonna be on TV.

Quote from Georgie

Mandy: This just feels like it could be the break I need.
Georgie: You deserve it.
Mandy: I know it's only temporary, but, I mean, who knows what could happen. Maybe people will like me better and start a letter writing campaign.
Georgie: I'd do that. [coughs] Well, I'd call. I'm not much of a letter writer.

Quote from Audrey

Mandy: Okay, what do you think?
Audrey: Beautiful.
Mandy: Oh, good, I was worried it was out of style.
Audrey: It is, but still beautiful.
Mandy: Why did I ask?

Quote from Georgie

Connor: Hello.
Georgie: Hey.
Connor: You look terrible.
Georgie: Oh, nothing a little orange juice won't cure.
[Georgie grabs the container from the fridge and drinks directly out of it]
Connor: Please don't put that back in the fridge.
Georgie: Fine.
